No comment on the tragic irony

Eugene (KMTR) – A man shot himself to death in a Eugene movie theater just after midnight Monday morning.

Police say about 10 patrons were in an auditorium at Regal Cinemas watching the movie “Watchmen.” About midway through the film some of the moviegoers told the manager they heard a “popping” noise like a gunshot. A 24-year-old man was found in the rear of the auditorium with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say the man shot himself and was dead when they arrived.

I loved the movie, best one I’ve seen this year by far (outside of The Wrestler), not that there’s been much competition.

Not to divert attention away from this tragedy, but during the Warner Brothers presentation at ShoWest, Alan Horn made a pretty pointed dig at Watchmen. After getting to the podium, Horn looked out into the relatively packed audience and said something to the effect of “If only you had all shown up to see Watchmen.” I was somewhat taken aback, especially with the movie still in theaters.

I will never understand the seething hatred you have developed for this film, Kris, but I can certainly recall the feeling for other far worse movies (I just need to close my eyes and think of Expelled).
