‘Away We Go’ one-sheet

Same jaunty home-made aesthetic as the trailer. And hey, who knew Jonathan Franzen was playing romantic leads these days? Oh, wait.

Anyway, I like it, but I’m still having trouble squaring such imagery with the tag of “from director Sam Mendes.” Is this coming from a genuine place inside him, or did he think, “Hmm, I think I’ll try my hand at one of those gentle indie comedies that have done quite well lately?” Nothing wrong with that. Kudos for the change of pace, either way.

I recently wrote about my own issues with the poster (and the trailer). It really does come as incredibly calculated and obvious as if there’s a checklist that they knew they had to check off – assortment of crazy supporting characters, indie music, quirky animation, dour lead male, etc. As I wrote “bandwagons have never been so appealing”.

    Two things:
    1. I could not finish The Corrections. I will not finish reading it.
    2. Maya Rudolph is underrated.

This is a movie that I am looking forward to seeing if only because this could be an interesting direction for Sam Mendes. Hopefully, it’s not his usual schtick.

Hideous design. Still hopeful though, I enjoyed some of the trailer. And Franzen is much better looking.

Just when you wanted to see another Juno-Little Miss Sunshine-Napoleon Dynamite, here we go!

    Sam Mendes is a hack.

Sam Mendes is a genious and Rev. Road prove that. For me, it was the best movie last year.
But I dont really know if this indie-thing works for him. And the leading couple dont seem have any chemistry. But the actors in supporting roles are amazing.

Looks like a cross between “Juno” and “Once.”
