The stillness

It feels good to slwoly make my way to the computer this morning without the usual onslaught of Oscarweb tid-bits.  Sure, I could link to all the bitching about the show (really, the Times is embarrassing itself with the insular sniping), but why bother?  It’s a done deal.  “Watchmen” is on the way.  It’s going to warm up soon.  We’ve conquered the season.

Smells like…victory.

We still have some year-in-advance nick-knacks to toss up by the end of the week, so never fear on that front.  Soon it’ll be the slow transition to the usual film coverage.  For now, the quiet is nice.

Hey everyone looking for something to do now that the Oscars are over- go see Medicine for Melancholy if it’s playing in your town. And if it’s not, watch it on demand. One of the best festival films of ’08 and sure to be one of the best theatrical releases of ’09.

Well said. It always feels nice after the awards are over. Finally able to breathe again.

Kris, you and the gang absolutely deserve the break so enjoy it while it lasts. You do a great job and I look forward to reading your work every single morning with coffee than sporadically throughout the day. Thanks for all you do. It is appreciated.

Early reviews on Watchmen are good thankfully. I remember one critic saying it was brilliant, but for the most part they say it’s just a good movie, nothing revolutionary.

“no disrespect to Kate and the other girls, I desperately miss Sally. I genuinely can’t see how any of their performances are as original, creative, profound, witty or versatile as hers. But there you go.”

I love this from Mike Leigh’s Oscar diary because it is true.
