*Not Related* I just heard Mickey Rourke’s dog Loki died. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that? If so thats very, very sad.

Should win : Danny Boyle
Will Win : Danny boyle .

Danny Boyle followed very closely by David Fincher. These two have deserved nominations for a while. Fincher’s time for a win will come.

Fincher and Van Sant either of these two upsetting would please.

I never quite got into Slumdog Millionaire the way Kris Tapley did, but I do believe that Boyle is the most deserving of the five nominees. Gus Van Sant wouldn’t be a bad choice either, though I think it would be more appropriate to wait and award him for something more on the level of Drugstore Cowboy or Paranoid Park.
It would be heartbreaking to me if David Fincher – a usually brilliant director – won his long overdue Oscar for one of his worst films. Cue attacks from the Kool-Aid drinkers in three, two…

Christopher Nolan should have been nominated.
However, Danny Boyle will surely win.

Gus Van Sant, who crafted the best and most fluid masterwork of ’08.

Fincher’s worst movie is Panic Room.
The Game is a pretty failure and I’m no fan of his much praised Se7en.

I agree with Chris. Nolan should’ve been nominated.

Am I the only one who hated Paranoid Park?

Never mind the winner, the biggest issue of this category is Nolan not being included. Say what you will about the movie itself (it has plenty of flaws, but then again I think EVERY movie that was in contention this year has plenty of flaws INCLUDING Slumdog). But Nolan’s direction was excellent and deserved to be nominated. It was a crime that he wasn’t.

Christopher Nolan. Nuff said.

Since the director that I feel should win the award wasn’t even nominated (Christopher Nolan), I’ll pick Danny Boyle, who directed the highest ranking Best Picture finalist on my Top 10 of the year.
Once I see Defiance, Bolt and Gran Torino, I’ll be able to piece together a much better Top 10 list than what I came up with on January 1.

Darren Aronofsky. Of the men nominated, Van Sant.
