A word of advice

Posted by · 4:14 pm · January 22nd, 2009

To any actors who might find themselves in the hunt for an Oscar nod next year: don’t let me interview you.

Seriously. It appears that the mere act of shaking my hand, or even greeting me over the phone, placed an immediate hex on the Oscar chances of several deserving thesps this season. If your publicist informs you that you’re due to speak to one Mr. Guy Lodge, proceed at your peril. (Directors, however, are apparently safe.)

To Sally Hawkins, Kristin Scott Thomas, Eddie Marsan, Rosemarie DeWitt, Michelle Williams and Elsa Zylberstein, I’m sorry you had to learn this the hard way. It doesn’t make me love your performances any less.

Make sure you get an interview with Hillary Swank.

    Save us from Amelia.

And don’t get nowhere near Patricia Clarkson. All eyes on you Guy.

Ha … and there I was thinking I should try interview the collected cast and crew of “Inglourious Basterds.”

I’ll do my best to avoid Ms. Clarkson, Billyboy. Does this mean I’m doomed never to meet anyone I admire anymore? The Oscars have totally ruined my life now. Sigh.

I am so sorry Guy, I too think the snubs for Michele Williams, Eddie Marsan, Sally Hawkins are unforgivable. Jolie & Streep (love her) have really no business being there.

I hope you can interview Brangelina every year at the outset so we can have them out of the way.

Perhaps you could get Kris to interview your hopefuls, Guy. He seems to have more fortunate a touch, with nominations for Mickey Rourke, Michael Shannon and Marissa Tomei.

Don’t interview Nicole Kidman as she’ll be up for Best Supporting Actress in NINE! She needs one last shot at the podium before her retirement!

Exactly, PJ. Any talent that comes my way, I’ll just send them on to Kris.

Mimi: Duly noted. I’ll do an in-depth profile of Fergie instead.

Please come nowhere near Stanley Tucci. Please keep Will Smith’s number on speed dial.
