I always felt Jim Carrey got an undeserved bad wrap because of his hyper antics on screen, but he’s quite the entertainer, and an underrated actor. Sure he’s made some real klunkers (The Number 23 comes to mind), but he’s also given some criminally overlooked performances that were just brilliant (Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine).

Saw this last night with a friend and while we applaud that he went all-out and really committed himself, I think his shtick, in general, is tired and obnoxious. Yes Man looks bad and I Love You Philip Morris looks worse. Poor Jimbo! He should go back to playing Ace.

Jim Carrey has always been one of my favorite actors because he is GENUINELY funny. I’ve always rooted for him. The only bad movie that I really cannot stand, and that he stars in, is the Number 23. Other than that, he’s an amazing actor and, most importantly, a showman, which was already pointed out.

I love Jim Carrey too, I just feel like it’s the same shtick over and over again, like Jack Black. It’s when they venture outside their comfort zones, like Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, Man on the Moon and Margot at the Wedding that they truly shine. Nothing wrong with making people laugh at stupid comedies around the holidays, just prefer seeing Carrey when he’s not playing Jim Carrey, ya know?
