I was at this screening of Che last Friday and saw the person filming with their camera.

It was a quite a treat for Steve to show up after the screening do this QA and even sign programs for any who wanted them signed.

I think it was announced in the paper he would be there but only the night before, many, like myself, purchased tickets to this film without knowing that.

I loved the film – it was shot beautifully.

Also, it was uncomfortable for the start of the QA, even for me. It is such a polarizing subject credit has to be given to him for even making a film about this, really 2 films that are 4.5 hours total.

Even at the end as I was walking out some people asked my opinion on the movie and I told them that I loved it, but no necessarily a believer in Che himself, I only cared about the cinematic aspect of film and they were giving me a hard time asking why, etc. Very odd.

There was also a huge South American audience in the crowd. In the start of part 2 where they show the map of South America, tons of people where screaming when their home country (or family’s country) was highlighted… I imagine many of them have a much different view on Che than I do (and there is even a divide among them so that didn’t help).

What was also odd was there where so many questions about the political aspects of the film. As Steven mentioned the film wasn’t really concerned with that aspect, he was just showing moments in history, not so much why they happened, or passing judgment if they were good reason, etc.

I really wish more of the questions people asked where about the process and especially info about RED. He was definitely getting a lot of abuse up there but took it in stride and held his own. I guess it wasn’t as bad as some of the crowd reactions in Miami a week before (from what I heard).
