Madelyn Dunham, grandmother of Barack Obama, passes at 86

At just hours before the election that will likely see her grandson voted President of the United States.  Story book level tragedy, to say the least.  Condolences all around.  Read the full story here.

    Kris-

This is definitely sad news. Just one day short of her grandson making history. My condolences to the Obama family and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.

On a somewhat related note (didn’t know where to post this), I know you are a big Redskins fan, Kris. Chris Berman on ESPN had an interesting stat about the Redskins and Presidential Elections. In that past 17 presidential elections, if the Redskins won their last home game BEFORE the election, the incumbent party won the presidency 16 out of 17 times. As an Obama supporter (and a superstitious Dem), I will be the Steelers biggest fan during MNF tonight. Besides, the Redskins are a lock for a Wildcard spot anyways. What would one loss hurt? :)

Yeah, that stats is brought out of the closet every four years. It was “disproved” in 2004, however, so I’m still rooting for the Skins!

And with the Giants playing hard, the Eagles managing to stay alive and the Cowboys on a downward spiral, the Skins need every win they can get! Especially going into a bye week. :)

Full disclosure. I should also admit that having lived in Philly during their run a few years ago, I’m also a closet Eagles fan. Anyway, should be a good game (if the Steelers can run the ball and protect Big Ben – otherwise, might be as lopsided as an Obama victory).

I just want the Steelers to play like they did last week. That’s all I want.

Boy, I sure hope Ms. Dunham had at least a passing interest in the NFL. Otherwise, my apologies to her.
