Riveting ‘Reader’ trailer

Is it just me or is this trailer for Stephen Daldry’s “The Reader” firing on all cylinders.  I was glued to it.  I never read Bernhard Schlink’s novel, but I wish I had picked it up somewhere along the line.  Click the image below for a peek at the film:

Holy crap. Ever since I was utterly floored by “Billy Elliot” and “The Hours” I know Stephen Daldry was a dude to look out for. He’s quickly become one of the most consistent and wonderfully satisfying modern directors in my eyes, and I cannot wait for this!!! Double Kate Winslet noms!

Julien, I believe that’s Lena Olin… know for her role in “ALIAS”.

The trailer does look riveting…. I have high hopes! And this looks to be Winslet’s year.

Wow, looks great. I forgot so many of the book but it all came back with this trailer. I wasn’t expecting this, I also wasn’t expecting to see Bruno Ganz there too. Looks like a winner again.

Oh my god. This looks like Best Picture material. I’m officially a fan of Daldry! Kate Winslet looks more and more certain of Oscar success.

It looks terrific — but I’m having a hard time swallowing Winslet’s “supporting” classification from the trailer (and my memory of the book). Oh well, whatever works for them.

I’m wondering, wouldn’t this be a nice moment to nominate Bruno Ganz just for the heck of it?

I’ll say this about Kate Winslet: she’s not afraid to take risks.
