As much as Downey would deserve a nod this year his only serious chance was with The Soloist.
I suspect that for Tropic Thunder they Academy might even go for Tom Cruise above Downey, or is that just wishful thinking?

Kris I’ll give you 20 bucks if RDJ gets nommed for TT. It’s not a bet because you don’t have to pay me if he doesn’t. Just a free 20 bucks to you if you are right, cuz I gotta side with Vulture on this one. And if we’re talking RDJ for Supporting Actor for a comedy like that, we might as well be talking about Franco in Pineapple Express.

definately no tom cruise… no chance. 0.
but for the InSneider, can i get a twenty too? i think people are really going to want to celebrate RDJ, rightfully, this year and their serious chance just got delayed. now they can go to an excellent performance in a well liked film that doesnt fit the usual bill… something tells me they dont want to seem like “the usual” anymore. Downey has had one of the biggest comebacks i’ve seen. my high school aged friends who pay absolutely no attention to film are nearly-legitimately saying they’re RDJ fans now.
Franco is a much different situation because this isnt the same kind of career year for him and they still have Milk to work with
