Screeners of Isabel Coixet’s “Elegy” are set to go out to Academy members this week, fresh on the heels of Sony Pictures Classics’ “Frozen River,” which went out over the weekend.

Key pushes for the film are Best Actor (Ben Kingsley),  Penélope Cruz (Best Actress), Dennis Hopper (Best Supporting Actor), Patricia Clarkson (Best Supporting Actress) and Nicholas Myer (Best Adapted Screenplay).  Let the games begin.

The actors in this film are amazing. Its’ a film I could watch again and again just because of the performances. Dennis Hopper is great. I wish the others would take a leaf out of Hopper’s book and get their voices recorded by Navtones so I could have them on my GPS. I just got Hopper’s voice and other cool celebrities as the voice on my GPS at Navtones.com. It’s awesome and I recommend it, just like this film.

Patricia Clarkson is luminous in the film, and really deserves a push — not that anything will come of it.

However, the rest of the film is, in my humble opinion, total tripe. Turning Philip Roth into edgeless soap opera really isn’t a feat that should be rewarded, in my opinion.

I also thought Deborah Harry was excellent.

Only Cruz stands a chance here. Kingsley was great for part of the film but stumbles later on.

i really enjoyed this film. great performances from Kingsley, Cruz, Hopper, Clarkson, and Sarsgaard (however brief his appearance was) doubt any will get the nomination though.
