NYT Mag talks to Penélope Cruz

Lynn Hirschberg from The New York Times Magazine sat down recently with “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” star Penélope Cruz for TMagazine (the NYT fashion mag).  It’s another one of those slick black and white jobs like the “Pineapple Express” interviews from last week.

The first half she spends talking about her relationship with director Pedro Almodóvar.  They’ve just finished up production on “Los Abrazos Rotos,” their fourth film together.  Then she gets into Woody and “Vicky.”  Apparently “Deconstructing Harry” is her favorite Allen flick.

She’s so infectious.  Have a look (though the black-on-black makes for a strange floating head thing):

Here’s what I like about Cruz: she’s not the most naturally gifted actress, but she’s become a good one through sheer hard graft, working with the best people she can and obviously taking on board every scrap of advice she’s ever received. If there was a “most improved actor” Oscar, she’d take it.

“Broken Embraces” is my #1 most anticipated film of 2009. Bar none.

Fantastic interview, thanks for sharing it. I really hope she lands her second nomination.

Geoff! Did I see you at the “Pineapple” screening a few weeks back? Your Metromix people were owning the theater.

Wait, did I just turn my message board into a private chat? Fuck it…
