New (ish) ‘Australia’ images

This page of “Australia” images is a Movie City News exclusive, though at least two of the pics have been on the net in some form for a while (including the saucy rain shot that’s been sitting cropped on our buzz page for some time).  In any case, these look to be an initial set of teaser posters for the film:

I dig it.  The first shot of Hugh Jackman is the more fetching, though.  Fox is gearing up a major campaign for this film, which will likely have the full power of the studio behind it, what with Searchlight’s apparent off-year.  I’m looking forward to it, but with an odd sense of anxiety.

These look over the top in my opinion trying to look “epic” I’ll admit I have low expectations anyways and the trailer didn’t impress me so this isn’t a big surprise that the pictures don’t work for me.

Dare I say something looks very “Pearl Harbor”-ish about them?

I think the look/campaign is certainly distinctive but the ‘A’ logo looks out of place, like something out of a superhero movie or something. Maybe Hugh Jackman turns into Australia-man during the film.

They’re stylised to the nth degree, but that’s Baz Luhrmann for you – I kind of love them.

Too many people seem to have made their minds up about this film already. People seem to be bothered by the tongue-in-cheek reflexivity and heightened performance style indicated in the trailer – as if we’d expect anything else from the man.

I desperately want to love this.

Why are you aniticipating it with an odd sense of anxiety?

Because it looks like it could be a total disaster? And I love Luhrmann, but I think he has it in him to fall hard creatively.
