‘Che’ trailer hits

A trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s “The Argentine” (the first half of his “Che” epic, which received mixed reactions at Cannes this year but certainly has its devotees) has landed on YouTube. James at Cinematical points the way, but get it while it’s hot. Not that there’s a studio involved that could yank the trailer down, but I don’t imagine this was an intentional leak.

It’s certainly not good news that the film hasn’t secured U.S. distribution as far as the upcoming awards circuit is concerned. We struck the film from the record (well, the charts in any case) a month ago because that grim feeling is starting to set in. “Che” may have to live to fight another day in 2009.  But this should be enough to whet your appetite in the interim.

It is my sincere hope that this film comes to the Toronto International Film Fetsival. Most of his work does…cannot wait to see Del Toro in this role, seems born to play it.

It looks great (from what is there to see and understand from the poor quality) but I still find it ridiculous how a $65 mln film can get made without there being someone to distribute it in the end.

Oh, I realize the reaction that this got at Cannes, but now that I have seen some images of it, I am further convinced that Soderbergh could be on to something here and that I will reserve judgement about it until I have seen it myself.

Well lets just be honest the reason it hasn’t been picked up in Northamerica probably has to do with the right wing Cuban lobby in the US. I am pretty sure you need a degree of courage to make and then distribute a movie like this, merely judging from the rabid reaction from right wingers its easy to see why. For my money I cant wait to see it as Benicio seems to made for the role!
