This was a big hit at Sundance and something tells me with the right finesse, Focus Features could spin some awards potential out of the film. But admittedly I haven’t seen it yet. Here’s the trailer. And the new poster:

Awards potential? That movie looks absolutely horrid. “Admittedly I haven’t seen it yet” but the trailer and the poster “from the Writer of Team America”

This is nothing more than a rip-off of Mel Brooks’ “The Producer” (just think about it for a second), except nowhere near as good. “Springtime for Hitler” = “Sexy whatever Jesus”.

I’m not too enthused. And not even Elizabeth Shue, who I like, could make me watch it.

Fair enough. Reception out of Sundance was largely positive, though I’ve talked to some who hated it here and there.

I would like to appologize for the unfinished third sentence above and the minor spelling mistakes. I was typing in a hurry on a laptop, so I didn’t have a chance to proofread my message (still not sure how I lost that other half of the sentence). This is one of those times when I wish this site had an edit feature.

The verdict still stands though. Which is a shame, because the movie has an inspired title and “Tristram Shandy”, which starred Steve Coogan was an inspired take on the “unfilmable” novel.

I think it looks embarrassing. Horrendous. Unfunny. Tripe.

No, really, I do. About as bad as the trailer for “Meet Dave”.
